Judy Blue vs Risen vs Kancan: Size Charts and Fit Guide
At Krafty Bandit we carry three of the most-loved boutique denim brands, Judy Blue, Kan Can (also spelled Kancan), and Risen. The question we hear most is simply: which one is right for me? All three are stretchy, flattering, and boutique quality, but the number on the tag does not mean the same thing across the three brands. Below are the published size charts, side by side, plus what the difference means when you are choosing a pair.
How do Risen jeans fit compared to Judy Blue?
At the same number on the tag, Judy Blue's published waist runs larger than Risen's, and the gap widens as the sizes go up. A Judy Blue tagged 24 lists a 25.5 inch waist. A Risen tagged 24 lists a 24 inch waist. That is a difference of 1.5 inches. By the top of the regular range the gap is 3.5 inches: Judy Blue size 15 (32) lists 35.5 inches, Risen size 32 lists 32 inches.
This is the single most useful thing to know before you order. If you wear a Judy Blue in a given number and you buy the same number in Risen, the Risen pair will feel tighter. Most shoppers who move from Judy Blue to Risen go up one size. Going the other way, from Risen to Judy Blue, many shoppers go down one.
Beyond the numbers, the two brands feel similar. Both lead with a high rise and both use denim with strong stretch and good recovery, so the jeans give when you move and return to shape instead of bagging out at the knee. The real difference in feel is at the waistband. Judy Blue builds its tummy control styles around a wider, firmer waistband that holds and smooths. Risen feels snug and sculpted without that extra structure, so it reads closer to a regular high rise jean. If you already wear Judy Blue and want the same feel in a different wash, Risen is the pair to try first. If what you like is specifically the tummy control waistband, stay with Judy Blue, because Risen does not do the same thing.
Judy Blue vs Kancan vs Risen: waist by tag number
This table lines the three brands up by the number printed on the tag, so you can see how much the same number differs between brands. All figures are in inches, taken from each brand's own published chart.
| Number on tag | Judy Blue size | Judy Blue waist | Kancan waist | Risen waist |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23 | - | - | 24 | - |
| 24 | 0 | 25.5 | 25 | 24 |
| 25 | 1 | 26.5 | 26 | 25 |
| 26 | 3 | 27.5 | 27 | 26 |
| 27 | 5 | 28.5 | 28 | 27 |
| 28 | 7 | 29.5 | 29.5 | 28 |
| 29 | 9 | 31 | 31 | 29 |
| 30 | 11 | 32.5 | 32.5 | 30 |
| 31 | 13 | 34 | 34 | 31 |
| 32 | 15 | 35.5 | - | 32 |
Read it this way. Risen's waist number matches the tag exactly. Judy Blue's runs 1.5 to 3.5 inches larger than the tag. Kancan sits between the two at the small end and matches Judy Blue from size 28 up.
One honest caveat. Kancan states that its chart is based on body measurements. Judy Blue and Risen do not say on their charts whether the figures are body or garment measurements. So this table compares what each brand publishes, which is what you see when you shop, but it is not a guarantee that all three measured the same way. That is exactly why the next section matters.
Can you measure the actual pair before I order?
Yes, and this is the part no size chart can do. Our denim comes in limited runs, so the pair sitting on our shelf in your size is the pair you will receive. Message us with the style and size you are looking at and we will lay it flat and measure the waist, the front rise, and the inseam, then send you the numbers. Compare those to a pair you already own and love, and you will get a better answer than any chart. Local shoppers can choose Local Pickup and try before committing.

| 3X | 20 to 22 | 37 to 38 |
What inseam and rise should I expect?
Risen publishes length and rise ranges by category, and they are a good general guide for boutique denim overall. Inseam is the seam from the crotch to the hem. Rise is the distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband at the front.
| Length name | Inseam |
|---|---|
| Ankle | 26 to 27 inches |
| Cropped | 27 to 28 inches |
| Standard | 28 to 30 inches |
| Full length | 30 to 33.5 inches |
| Rise name | Front rise |
|---|---|
| Mid rise | 9 to 10 inches |
| High rise | 10 to 11 inches |
| Super high rise | 11 inches and up |
Inseam and rise both change with the individual style, so treat these as ranges rather than promises. Ask us and we will measure the pair you are looking at.
